Perched on the magnificent Bay of Fundy, experiential tourism has become our niche offering here in wondrous Annapolis Digby. That is, you can experience for an hour, a day, or more — in a meaningful, authentic and connected way — what it's like to be a vintner, a periwinkler, a rug hooker. These are just a few of our experience providers. All this, within our beautiful UNESCO-designated Biosphere Reserve.
More on our relationship to UNESCO: The entire Annapolis Digby region has been designated as a Biosphere Reserve with respect to the unique flora and fauna found here. But there is even more to experience. The area will invigorate your mind, body and soul.
Where else in the world can you find 50 foot tides and a 30 foot upright slab of basalt rock perched, stoic and zen-like, at ocean's edge? Simply, nowhere except here on the Bay of Fundy, where you can witness the Atlantic Ocean breathing deeply twice every day. Just check out the Digby waterfront webcam!
Visitors come to the Annapolis Digby region to stop and smell the roses, literally, at the Annapolis Royal Historic Gardens. Here you’ll find a balance of the historical and botanical aspects of horticulture. Ten acres of beautiful, peaceful gardens, amid winding paths, containing fantastic roses, themes and displays in one of the oldest European settlements in North America.
Canada began here when the first European explorers sailed into the Annapolis Basin. The history is captured and you can still experience life in the early 1600’s at the Port Royal Habitation, and Fort Anne.
The Europeans were welcomed by the First Nations people who settled the area. The area is rich with tradition and you are invited to learn the uniqueness of this aboriginal culture from their direct descendents.
Recreational activities are plentiful year round, from kayaking, whale watching and fishing, to golfing, wine tasting and cross country skiing. There’s plenty to keep your blood pumping in the world’s most spectacular environment and scenery. If you’re more inclined to lay back and soak up nature, you’ll discover some of the most awe inspiring sights here, on and off the beaten path.
Around the region, you’ll all find artists displaying their creations. History and nature combine to inspire everything from traditional crafts to modern abstract. Live entertainment, theatre, music and festivals are abundant.
If you like the thrill of a wild ride, visit Upper Clements Park, Nova Scotia’s Fun Park, where you’ll find exciting rides for all ages and entertainment morning to night.
Museums in the area offer a glimpse of the past. The Annapolis Valley Macdonald Museum, Admiral Digby Museum, and others operated by the Annapolis Heritage Society celebrate history and offer period experiences. You’ll also find seasonally staffed Genealogy Centres to assist with your family research. We are proud of our heritage and it shows.
