*disComfort Zone

Call for Submissions: Artist members of VANS (Annapolis Region West: from Middleton to Bear River) are invited to participate in the upcoming exhibition disComfort Zone.  Exhibition to take place from April 8 – May 5, 2012 at ARTsPLACE Gallery in Annapolis Royal.

We want you to leave your current comfort zone and stretch your artistic muscles.  Change your medium, your genre — or both!  Are you watercolorist who would like to show a sculptural piece?  Are you a ceramicist who’d like to hang a painting?  Do you normally stick to realism but want to practice your non-representational chops?  Are you a landscape specialist who’d like to try portraiture?  Anything goes here — including installation and performance — it just needs to be out of the norm for you. Take a tiny baby step, or a giant leap . . . We will be using the main space as well as the grounds, so you can even create an outdoor piece.  Collaborations are also encouraged, so talk amongst yourselves!

Please contact Regional Representative Susan Malmstrom (theartist@susanmalmstrom.com) by Friday, February 17th to notify us of your intent to participate.  You must be a VANS member in good standing at the time of submission (www.visualarts.ns.ca).

All work is due — ready to hang or install — at ARTsPLACE Gallery no later than March 31.    We will be presenting a workshop on performance art at ARCAC soon for those interested in presenting a performance work for the first time.  A date and time for all performance art presentations will be forthcoming.
