Transportation plays a key role in our region's economy, both in terms of exporting its products as well as bringing in tourists. ACOA has commissioned CPCS Transcom Limited to study this issue in detail, including determining the future of the Digby-Saint John ferry service.  The purpose of this working paper is to provide an analysis of the economy in SWNS and the role of transportation.

 

 Rural and Small Town Canada Analysis Bulletin: Population Change Across Canadian Communities, 1981 to 2006

Published by StatsCan in March of 2010, findings include: Communities highly reliant on traditional sectors at the beginning of the 1980s (typically rural) experienced significant population downsizing; communities that were more diversified and had a higher educational attainment at the beginning of the 1980s experienced higher population growth over the following two decades; community population change is determined both by community as well as regional characteristics; the latter in some cases reinforces community effects.

 

 A Profile of Families and Children in Nova Scotia (November, 2009)

This document contains a socio-economic profile of Service Canada's Families and Children client segment in Nova Scotia. For the purposes of this profile, the concept of Census Family is used. A Census Family can be defined by any of the following: a married couple, with or without children; a couple living in a common-law relationship, with or without children; or a single parent, with children. The focus of the families' strategy is on families with children aged 14 and under. In all cases they must be living in the same dwelling. The data in this profile are primarily provided by Statistics Canada and are from Census 2006 standard tabulations and Census 2006 custom tabulations.

Municipality of the County of Annapolis: Community Engagement Summary Report

Phase I report of the Municipality of the County of Annapolis's public consultation to identify key areas of sustainability as required by the Integrated Community Sustainability Plan (ICSP) process. The ICSP consultation program facilitated a consensus to draft a vision for the County's sustainable future. The program also identified current County initiatives and assets that can be leveraged to propel the Municipality toward that vision.
