Bear River is home to the site of North America's very first vineyard, established in 1611 by Louis Hébert. This charming hamlet is now home to Bear River Vineyards, the award winning Annapolis Highland Vineyards, and several others viticulture operations that will be open to the public by 2011. That's 400 years of grape growing history right here in Annapolis Digby!
Annapolis Digby has some of the most beautiful and unspoiled agricultural land left on the planet. And because Annapolis Digby is on the same latitude as Bordeaux, France, we may have an advantage over other wine regions in Canada in terms of the kinds of grapes that can be grown here. Cajacet Vineyards, located in Granville Ferry, grows four varietals that are used exclusively by St-Famille to produce Quartet which is available for a brief period in the spring.
