First Great Canadian Camping Challenge

camping_challengeRaven Haven Family Beachside Park will be the location for Annapolis County Recreation’s very first Great Canadian Camping Challenge on August 8.

The event will focus on challenges that put a person’s camping skills to the test. Such activities will include, but won’t be limited to, fire building, putting up a tent, and hanging a tarp. The teams are not required to bring equipment with them. Club 400 will be providing tents and there will be tarps and ropes available on-site.

“We (council) appreciate the way Recreations Services staff continues to provide original and creative activities for our residents and visitors,” said Annapolis County Warden Peter Newton.

“This new challenge will not only put camping enthusiasts to the test regarding their abilities, but it will also offer them an enjoyable afternoon experiencing the great outdoors and healthy living.”

According to Todd Warren, Annapolis County Summer Programs/Promotions Technician, this event was developed to give people the chance to test their camping skills in a controlled environment, to provide a family-fun afternoon, and a way to promote Raven Haven.

The Great Canadian Camping Challenge will begin at 1 p.m. and will run throughout the afternoon. There will be draw prizes as well as a grand prize for the winning team. Cost is $10 per team/family. There is no age limit but young children should be accompanied by an adult.

“A minimum of four teams will be required to make sure this event can happen,” said Warren. “So, if people are interested I encourage them to register as soon as possible. It promises to be a fun-filled afternoon and experience.”

To register your team, or if you have any questions regarding this event, please contact Warren at (902) 532-2334 or recstudent@annapoliscounty.ns.ca. Also, registration forms can be downloaded from www.annapoliscounty.ns.ca and mailed, faxed or delivered to the municipal building; or you can drop by and register in person where recreation staff will be happy to assist. Registration deadline is Tuesday, Aug. 3.
