“Community Values...Pressing Forward” is the theme of Bridgetown’s annual Ciderfest, the Annapolis Valley’s traditional end of the harvest season event now in its 27th year.
Running a full slate of activities from Thursday, Sept. 16 to Sunday, Sept. 19, residents and visitors alike can enjoy annual favourites such as the Apple Pie contest followed by the Harvest Dinner at the Legion. The Quilt & Rug show runs Friday and Saturday at St. James Anglican Church and a silent auction in support of the new library will operate out of the James House Museum.
On Friday night, pedestrians take over Queen Street for the Queen Street Café, a lively mixture of music and dancing. Kids will be able to enjoy games galore and there is a refreshment area for the adults. Bridgetown’s Youth Ambassador for 2010-2011 is chosen this evening and the popular Head Shave, in support of the Cancer Foundation, and sponsored by Scotiabank, will take place.
Saturday is busy with several events, kicking off with a pancake breakfast at the new Bridgetown Fire Hall. The Kids Parade, followed immediately by the Grand Street Parade starts at 2 p.m. Parade organizer Gerald Lutley is inviting parade entries and he can be contacted at 665-4400 for more information. A parade application form can be downloaded at the Ciderfest web site. Saturday continues with the Rubber Duck Race and Cardboard Boat Regatta based from Jubilee Park. The day ends with the popular Amateur Talent Showcase Jamboree at the Legion and the Ciderfest Stomp at the arena.
Sunday marks the return of the ever-popular Show & Shine at Jubilee Park. Other Sunday events include the Terry Fox Run, the Chamber of Commerce Fitness Challenge, and wraps up with the challenging Car Rally.
Many events require advance tickets and/or pre-registration. For full event schedules, details and contact information, please consult the Ciderfest website at www.bridgetownciderfest.com.
